Light and Salt

Jesus came to me, and lifted me away from the world.
We journey through what seems to be the second heaven,
which is something we normally don't do.
I wonder about what I am about to learn, while I examine the transparent, white tunnel, or wormhole, we journey through.

I see creatures grasping after us.
I sense their hatred and desire to kill us.
My heart cowers at their malice and unrest.

I fasten my grip on Jesus' robe,
but feel relatively safe being with him.
And why shouldn't I?
After all, he is above all things, has defeated all evil.
I breathe a little deeper as I am reminded of the foundation of my faith.

Instead of worrying, I think about how different this journey must be from what is written in the «Book of Daniel».

With Jesus, it was a quick journey as we sped through the angry masses and in to the green meadows of the third heaven.
We are met by the majestic movements of two giraffes.
They reach for the leaves on the treetops, chewing peacefully
while looking at us as we walk by, unaffected by our presence.

We walk over undulating hills stretching far and wide until we reach a meadow with a chalkboard.
It looks strange from afar. One single board in the middle of an infinitely large field.
As we get closer, I see that there are some squared boxes attached to the board. They remind me of a game.
Sliding puzzle…?
Where you are supposed to move around pieces to reveal an image?

They are placed all over the board, and there are formulas and mathematical symbols on them. At least that's what I think.
Math has never been my thing.

Jesus starts moving some of the squares around.
He then picks up a piece of chalk and starts writing down an equation using the symbols/formulas on the squares.
He eagerly explains what he is doing.
- I am creating equations for an action that is being done or will be done based on free will.

He looks at me like I'm supposed to understand what he is talking about,
before he continues his math lecture.

If I had not been in Heaven, I would have brought a cup of coffee for this trip.
- And a book.
Yes, a good book I could get lost in and escape from the unbearable world of numbers.

But I have neither coffee nor a book with me,
so I have no choice but to pay attention to the math lecture.

Jesus seems to love math.
Of course.
After all, he created the strange world of numbers too.

- The squares I am moving around are fixed formulas from the beginning of time. They are placed in the equation according to what action is being made.
- Are you saying that every action we make, including passive actions, is an equation? I ask, trying to understand.

He asks me to go to the edge of the meadow, which was not there a moment ago, and look down.
As I willingly walk to the edge and lay down on my stomach, I wonder about the reason he is showing this to someone with so little interest in math.

- What do you see? Jesus asks
- I see dark heads - I think…?

Jesus explains that it is not heads, but dark spots that are still in the world.

There are an awful lot of dark spots, I think to myself,
but noticing Jesus' enthusiasm, I say nothing.
He scribbles some more on the board,
moves around the squares and almost shouts:
(even though I am right next to him)

- Watch this!

I look down at the dark spots.
I can only describe what I witnessed as a chemical reaction.
As Jesus completes the equation, I see one of the spots dissolve and turn into light.
I turn towards Jesus in amazement of what I had just seen.

- It became light.
Jesus looks at me and asks
- Do you want to be light and salt of the Earth?

  1. Jesus asks those who believes in him to be light and salt of the Earth. We read about it in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 5:13-16, but what does it mean?

Salt has the power to preserve food. It is also used to add and bring out flavour in food. Salt is a symbolism for something that act in opposition to the influence of evil on Earth, but it is also a symbol for adding something good and brining out the best in something, or someone.

    Light allows us to see.
Without the light, we stumble around blind.
Have you ever noticed how distorted everything becomes in a dark room or when you walk in a dark forest, etc.?
It's like your own living room is transformed to living creatures, and the forest you love to walk in is full of sounds and movements that seems both frightening and overwhelming.
When we turn on the light, or the sun rises, the truth is revealed to us. A dark shadow you were convinced you saw move, is transformed into a treasured rocking chair or some other familiar furniture. During the day, the forest is once again filled with beautiful trees and plants swaying in the wind. The frightening sounds turn into the harmless sounds of the birds and animals that normally bring peace to your mind, whenever there is light. Showing you what is good, true, and what brings life.

You are the salt of the Earth! But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
